Every now and then, a product comes along that causes you to wonder why it wasn’t created sooner. Just such a product is The Feeding Friend which was recently awarded the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award from the world’s leading business-to-business pet industry magazine, Pet Product News, International.

Desperate to keep ants out of her dogs’ food, inventor Laura Kuster created a feeder that delivers a constant supply of food and water while blocking all manner of crawling pests from reaching the food supply. The idea was such a hit with local pet owners, who were exhausted from their own battles with hordes of ants in the area, that Kuster founded Simple Pet Solutions to meet the growing demand for her new invention.

“I searched everywhere for a dog dish that would keep the ants out and, to my amazement, there was nothing on the market that did what I needed,” she explained. “Finally, I started designing the feeder that I was looking for.” The result was a true breakthrough in pet feeder design.

The Feeding Friend features a base that, through a float-valve system, serves to provide constant fresh water while effectively blocking ants from reaching a column that rises from it’s center. A food bowl and gravity fed hopper, that holds over 10-pounds of food, rest on top of the column. A pet owner with two, medium-sized dogs can go as long as a week without adding food and they don’t need to worry about water or that the food has been ruined by ants or other crawling pests.

The Feeding Friend first came to the attention of Pet Product News at last year’s SuperZoo trade show in Las Vegas. “We knew we were on to something special with this because of the response we were getting from the crowd,” said Kuster. “People would walk up to it with a puzzled look on their faces and, once we demonstrated how it worked, you’d see a light go on. Apparently I’m not the only pet owner who had been searching for a feeder like this.”
